Creative Writing Poetry and Verse

·         Elementary Level - Grades 1 to 3: One selection required, any poetic form.  May be illustrated if desired.  Illustrations will not be adjudicated.

·         Elementary level – Grade 4 to 7, Junior Secondary level – Grade 8 to 10, and Senior level – Grade 11 to 12: Two selections required, any poetic form.

·         Adult level:  Two selections required.  Any poetic form. 

Creative Writing Cowboy Poetry

·         Elementary level – Grade 4 to 7, Junior Secondary level – Grade 8 to 10, and Senior level – Grade 11 to 12: Two selections required.

·         Adult level:  Two selections required.

Creative Writing Prose

·         Elementary Level – Grades 1 to 3: Short prose selection. Maximum 500 words.

·         Elementary level – Grade 4 to 7: Short prose selection 150 to 750 words.

·         Junior Secondary level – Grade 8 to 10: Prose selection 500 to 1500 words.

·         Senior level – Grade 11 to 12: Prose selection 1000 to 3000 words.

·         Adult level:  Prose selection 1500 to 5000 words.

Creative Writing Storybook

This class is open to elementary students.  Books will be judged on creativity, originality, appropriate use of language, illustrations and general presentation.  The content may be suitable to juvenile or mature readers.

Creative Writing Portfolio

Cariboo Festival Society Creative Writing Competition:

Elementary Level – Grades 4 to 7: Portfolio must include four poems (showing a variety of poetic forms), and one prose selection of 250 to 1000 words.

Junior Secondary level – Grade 8 to 10: Portfolio must include six poems (showing a variety of poetic forms), and one prose selection of 750 to 3000 words, and may be an excerpt from a longer work.
